Two of the best meals that I had during my visit to Newfoundland were close to the ferry terminals. Sailing the next morning, I had to stay my last night night in Port-aux-Basque. I discovered Alma's and found it to be the exact kind of cafe I always search for. A small, local owned, locally patronized home cooking place with great service and excellent food. The fisherman's platter was delicious and filling. The seafood was generously portioned, cooked perfectly, and the sides were good and hot. I was too full for dessert so I took a piece of homemade carrot cake back to the room to eat before turning in and found it to also be delicious. I highly recommend Alma's.

The people here are absolutely lovely. The coffee’s hot, the food is delicious, and super cheap for the amount you’re getting. Right place to go for a good hearty meal.

Great spot for a yummy homemade breakfast after a long night time drive across the island on our way to the ferry . Price was right for a quality breakfast with lovely staff. I asked for the icing sugar for my French toast and they delivered.
Loved the food. Great taste, nice clean traditional style diner. Great staff

It is a must go for breakfast. The bacon was crispy. The little bun was soft and juicy. The potato chips was crispy too. Everything is good taste and perfect. Many local people came for breakfast too.

My husband & I have been in Newfoundland for a week. All the places, from st John's to port aux Basques we have eaten from, does not compare to the fish and chip meal we had here. The pan fried/& deep fried cod was just to die for, cooked to perfection!! The fries are homemade , the gravy was delicious.Kudos to the cooks and staff!!!
